A Place in the Sun for Byrne
Friday, 4th Jan 2013Dunfermline Athletic Head of Youth Development Stephen Wright hopes the progress into the first team of the U20s captain will boost youth programme
Dunfermline Athletic Head of Youth Development Stephen Wright was delighted for Shaun Byrne on Wednesday when he made his first starting appearance for the first team. Stephen said:-
"I thought Shaun was excellent in his first senior game and that he demonstrated just what he is capable of producing. He has been part of the Dunfermline youth programme for the last 5 years and during this time we recognised his potential for progressing into the 1st team. Shaun has performed very well this season so far with the U20 squad and has worked extremely hard to get to this stage."
Stephen, who will be travelling to Cyprus next week with the U20 squad for a winter training camp funded by the European Communities Leonardo Da Vinci Programme added:-
"It is great for our youth department that one of our own is starting to break through into the first team. This is the future for our Club, to produce our own talent and I am confident that we have 3 or 4 further players who will be ready to make the breakthrough over the next while."
Stephen is hoping that Shaun making his debut in the first team coupled with the U20s going to a winter camp abroad will have a massive boost for the Club:-
"I am confident that our young players can see the pathway into the first team and will come back from Cyprus raring to get started again for the second half of the U20 season."
On the flight to Cyprus on Wednesday will be the following three staff and nineteen players:-
