1-0 us
Thursday, 3rd Jan 2013Andy Geggan Pars first scorer of 2013 and it was an important milestone for him - his first goal since signing for Dunfermline Athletic.
Andy Geggan made every Pars fan new year with the winning goal against Raith on Wednesday, for him it was an important milestone and his first goal since scoring the winner for Ayr United against Falkirk in March 2012. He was sporting a wide smile when he talked to the media after the match:-
"I was delighted to score my first goal for Dunfermline but to come like that was even better, especially against Raith. I felt that it has always been coming over the last few weeks. I had hit a few good shots but the keeper has been saving them. To come today is brilliant."
His 71st minute goal came from a really well flighted delivery in from the right by Josh Falkingham, Andy continued:-
"The boy Smith was marking me and he said to me 'I don't know why I didn't mark you there'. He stayed while I ran away from him."
This came as a great silencer for a chance at the other end that Smith had called too soon:-
"It was a free kick that was whipped in and he was just short of it. He said 1-0 us but when I scored I just ran up to him and said 1-0 us! It was good and I enjoyed it.
"We have not been playing badly in recent weeks but we had a bad December. Now we just need to keep it going. Everybody can beat everybody else in this league." And making reference to Dumbarton winning at Morton which means the Pars are just two points behind the league leaders, Andy added:-
"The result keeps us back in the challenge" Andy dismissed suggestion that his old club, Dumbarton might be the wrong opponents to face on Saturday but he does acknowledge that his pre season training partner has made a big impact since taking the Sons over:-
"I doubt it, we'll go down there and beat them" he quipped, "but they are doing really well since Ian Murray came in, he is a good guy."
