Callum says bring on the Rovers

Sunday, 30th Dec 2012

"We have to do better, got to defend better than that because conceding four goals isn't good enough at all."

Callum Morris v Morton

Pars defender Callum Morris scored his first goal in senior football at Cappielow on Saturday but at the end of the afternoon he didn't feel much like celebrating it.

"It was brilliant to score but it doesn't mean anything when you are turned over 4-2. It was a disappointing performance really from everyone. We wanted to come here and get a good result; kick on another run and push towards the top of the table again. We are all gutted but we just need to move on to Wednesday's game now and the Raith game, pick ourselves up because we need the three points desperately."

Callum Morris' first goal for Dunfermline

Callum's tenth minute opener was followed by intense Morton pressure in a period leading up to half time where they forced several corners and won many free kicks:-

"We knew before the game that they were dangerous and very good in the air. We were told not to give away corners and free kicks but we gave away cheap ones. They nearly scored a few times and the goal they scored wasn't the best either. We have to do better, got to defend better than that because conceding four goals isn't good enough at all."

The team will be keen to move on but Jim Jefferies had a lengthy debrief with his players who were down and disappointed. Callum continued:-

"It is done now and we can't dwell on these things in football and the good thing is that there is another game on Wednesday: Luckily it is a big one and at home, we have got to bounce back and get the three points desperately."

Mortons second goal

The Manager had stated post match that he felt that his players just weren't up for the game as much as Morton but Callum says there will be no problem being up for the big local derby:-

"We can't not be. All the lads are frustrated and dying to get back out on the pitch to prove to everyone that we are good enough to win this league. We have beaten Raith twice this season already but that means nothing when it's down to 90 minutes between the two teams. We have to go out there and prove that we are better than them and get the three points by hopefully getting a few goals and keeping a clean sheet. We have conceded too many goals recently; as a back four and Paul Gallacher we are disappointed with that as much as the rest of the lads."

The 22 year old central defender acknowledged that the Christmas period in any league is crucial and this is not time to hit poor form but three defeats in the last four league games is not what is desired:-

"You want to try and go on a run and pick up as many points as possible. We have slipped up a few times but the Manager sees it as a long season and we still have to play Morton twice again. We can pick those points back up and I think now he is just more disappointed about the performance."
