Craig Dargo Post Partick

Sunday, 2nd Dec 2012

"You have got to look at the positives and say we have created a lot of chances, should we have scored more? Probably yes."

Craig Dargo

Craig Dargo made his tenth Dunfermline appearance on Saturday but for the 34 year old striker it was just his second start since joining the Pars from Dumbarton at the start of the season. He felt that the result was the most important thing:-

"We have won the game but I think we could have scored more before we actually did score. Credit is due to Partick and when they went down to ten men and in the second half at times they had more possession than we did. We had more chances in the second half and should have scored more goals but then what a save from Paul Gallacher. That was different class; he is great between the sticks and he pulled us out of a wee hole there.

"We knew that we had to be patient and not force it too much. They were down to ten men, we were 1-0 up so we did not need to force it. We struggled a little in the second half but did get the better chances. Partick did get a penalty and that was a massive moment in the game when Gall saved it."

That possibly let the strikers off the hook a bit having just one own goal against Partick to their credit after two league matches already this season:-

"We had not been creating many chances against Partick but on Saturday we did against a very very good team. You have got to look at the positives and say we have created a lot of chances, should we have scored more? Probably yes."

The red card was a pivotal moment in the match and Craig was certain that there was contact from Partick defender Aaron Muirhead:-

"I got in front of him and he just caught me to be fair. My ankle is going to be swollen up tonight. It is unfortunate for him, I have got in behind and on the wrong side of him that made it difficult. I don't think that it was intentional but it was a foul and so it was a red card."

Craig was delighted when he heard his name read out in the starting eleven. Jim Jefferies had tried different shapes in training but had kept all his players guessing as to who would start against Partick Thistle.

"He said always be on your toes because there could be changes. Andy Barrowman and Ryan Wallace have been doing well and there is Kirky there as well waiting on the fringes to get a game. To be pushed in front of them is a real pleasure especially with it being the Scottish Cup."

The Pars striker was given a stormy farewell from the home support as he was withdrawn to make way for Ryan Wallace with twenty minutes to go but he felt that only demonstrated that he must have done something right!

"I wasn't sure what that was all about but they have obviously marked you. You do not receive treatment like that if you are not a threat, I will take it in my stride and as a compliment."
