Cardle Man of the Match
Sunday, 28th Oct 2012Joe gets off the mark as Pars go back to the top of the table
Joe Cardle was named Man of The Match as Dunfermline beat Cowdenbeath 3-0 and went back to the top of the First Division. For Joe his tenth appearance of the season was significant since he got his season's goalscoring granny out of the way. Speaking after the game Joe said:-
"It was my first goal of the season but hopefully that's me off the mark now. Hopefully most of the shots I will be taking will be hitting the back of the net. I think that's what I needed - a wee goal just to boost my confidence and self belief so yes I am happy with that.
"I have not really had consistency this season so it was nice that the gaffer gave me the chance today to start. I am pleased that I got the early goal and we went on to win 3-0. It is a big three points because we knew at the start of the game that it was another big derby game for us; we knew that we had to be clued up for the game.
"We started the game well. The first half was a good performance and then the carry on at half time slackened us off. We didn't know what was going on, we were warming up for about ten to fifteen minutes - it kind of killed us a bit but it was the same for both teams. We had to be professional about it but at the end of the day it was a good one all round.
"It is nice to see ourselves top of the table. We don't have a game next weekend so we go into another break where we are sitting top of the table and it is always nice to see yourselves up there."
Joe praised his team mates:-
"We have young fresh legs, everyone is like best mates and as long as that continues we have a great chance this season. Long may it continue."
Even after Stephen Husband's penalty miss he was not making a bid to assume the role:-
"I am not really a big penalty taker. We leave it to Hubby and Barrowman but I don't think Hubby will be taking the next one!"
