Cardle happy to assist
Monday, 1st Oct 2012"It was just a normal team talk at half time. We got the chance straight away and then pushed on from the goal.
Joe Cardle played his part as one of the players who switched the ball on in the 19 seconds at the start of the second half that ended in Dunfermline's opening goal. He claimed that Jim Jefferies was confident that the goalscoring that had eluded his side in midweek against Aberdeen would eventually come against Billy Reid's Hamilton. The gaffer's half time reassurances didn't take long to be proven right when play resumed for the second half.
"We were told at half time just to keep going after a first half in which I thought we played some good stuff without getting the goal that we wanted. The Manager told us to keep at it and that we'd get a chance.
"It was just a normal team talk at half time. We got the chance straight away and then pushed on from the goal. It was a great break; Stephen Jordan made a great run down the side and I cut inside and gave him a ball. He found Ryan and it was a great first time finish. We will take that and we got stronger as the game went on."
In 68th minute Joe was instrumental in setting up Wallace for a second as he cut in characteristically from the left:-
"I came inside and there were a couple of boys in front of me. I saw Ryan on the other side and he took a touch and finished it. An assist is as good as a goal for me. To win 3-0 away from home at Hamilton is a great victory."
At the ripe old age of 25 Joe is enjoying being all of a sudden one of the older players in the squad and with 116 Pars appearances he is certainly one of the more experienced members of Jim Jefferies squad:-
"It is the first season that I have felt that I am a mature player. Normally I was in the young team on a Friday but I am in with the older boys now. It feels strange but I will take that."
Monday mornings too have a much different mood this season:-
"Last season we lost a lot of games but this season we have had a good start. It is going to be a long season and we must keep our heads down, keep working hard and if we do that we have a chance. We have great spirit, everyone was buzzing and jumping about after the win. It is a great feeling to be in a winning team."
It would seem that next Saturday's match away to Falkirk just can't come quick enough and Joe revealed that was already the talk of the changing room.
"We are looking forward to it. It is a week away but we will start training on Monday for the biggy."
