Paul Gallacher thinks Pars can get a result v Aberdeen
Aberdeen's poor cup record will not play on anybody's minds when the Dons come to Dunfermline in the Scottish Communities Cup tonight says Paul Gallacher:-.
"I know they have struggled and had problems with lower league opposition in the past but they have a management team who have been in the game long enough to know the score and they will get them well drilled and up for the game.
"It is a tough match for us and if you look at the Dons team on paper they are a good side full of top professionals and they work hard for each other. You saw the evidence of that against Motherwell on Sunday when they dug in and rescued a point so it will be very hard for Dunfermline but it is a match we are looking forward to."
For Gall and the team in front of him it is a massive game against a team that they competed very well against last season and did okay. Getting through the tie is the main priority and hopefully they can do that.
"This is a whole new team and we have a young, hungry squad of players. The Manager has brought in guys that are hungry and have played a lower level but that want to achieve something in the game and play at the highest level. They have done fantastically well. The players have mixed and gelled in such a short space of time and the Manager has turned round the whole squad as a lot of players left the club and there has been big changes but it is shaping up fairly well for being so early in the season."
After an impressive five consecutive wins the Pars will want to keep the momentum going and already at this early stage of the season they are looking for the Partick Thistle result as soon as they know that they have won their game.
"It is early doors but five wins from six games is decent and Partick were the team to beat us and deservedly so. The League Cup is a nice distraction for us."
The Pars goalkeeper could have a major influence on the result, especially if the match goes to penalties after extra time. He continued:-
"I would rather win the game in 90 minutes to be honest. If it has to go to extra-time and penalties then so be it. This is a team that we know well from our previous cup experiences but both sides have changed drastically since then.
"Looking back on previous encounters we came out on top in 2010. It would be nice to just win the game. I saved two penalties in the shoot-out from Scott Severin and Ricky Foster and that sticks out in my mind. I remember we drew 1-1 at East End Park and there was a massive crowd and it was the same at Pittodrie and the atmosphere was great and we kept it tight again and it went to the lottery of penalties and we got the rub of the green.
"It was pleasing for me but that is in the past and if we can play to our potential as I know we can then hopefully we can get a result."
