Wednesday night brings Craig Brown`s Aberdeen back to Halbeath Road in the Third Round of the Scottish Communities League Cup. The Pars have played Aberdeen twice in the Scottish Cup in recent years, both times at Pittodrie, and both games have gone right to the wire with Dunfermline winning on penalties in 2009, and the Dons requiring a last minute winner in 2011.
Dunfermline have met Aberdeen eleven times in the League Cup and never won once. Ten of those games took place between 1955 and 1974 when the League Cup was played in sections; the most recent tie was twenty years ago in 1992. That season, like this, it was a win over Montrose that preceded the tie against Aberdeen but the previous season`s finalists were to go down 1-0 at Pittodrie.
Dunfermline`s League Cup record in those eleven meetings is drawn four, lost seven. The last time Aberdeen were at East end Park on League Cup business was on 17th August 1974 and that ended in a 1-1 draw. Jackie Sinclair scored the goal which followed his first half hat trick in the previous section game at Tynecastle.

Out of the last twelve matches against Aberdeen, Dunfermline have won three, drawn two and lost seven. The last time Aberdeen and Dunfermline met was on 28h April this year at East End Park in the SPL. That was significant because it was the Pars first home win of the season but from that day only five Pars survive - Joe Cardle, Andy Dowie, Andy Kirk, Andy Barrowman and Ryan Thomson.
