Barrowman ready for Livvy
Friday, 21st Sep 2012"Winning helps build confidence and if you are winning games the confidence comes."
Andy Barrowman was desperately disappointed that he had to call off for the match at Dumbarton through illness but now that he has fought off the virus that kept him out, he was back in training on Tuesday and is hoping to be included in the starting eleven against Livingston on Saturday.
The Pars top goalscorer with five goals from six games is hoping to overtake last season's record that saw him net six in seventeen games in what was a tough season all round for players and fans alike. Andy is enjoying the contrast:-
"It is nice to come in to training; there's a good atmosphere about the place. It is a young squad but I think that brings about a certain kind of cameraderie. On the pitch there are signs that we are starting to click so its a good place to be right now."
Part of the success is the partnership that 27 year old striker has struck up with new signing Ryan Wallace:-
"We clicked right away, even in the training in pre season. Every time we were in the same team it was just something that happened. I don't know why it is and it is not something that we have worked on. We are on the same wavelength and I enjoy playing alongside him. He is clever and you can play off him."
Andy met the new season as a trip into the unknown. There were a lot of new faces after shedding players who had failed to avoid relegation, he survived and become ever-present in the first six matches.
""There was a hangover from last season and I think in pre season when we didn't do that well, that was maybe a result of relegation but I think we got that out of our system. Since the Forfar game we have really started to gel and its enjoyable."
Changes in personnel is tough for any side and Andy suggested that you need look no further than Rangers at the moment:-
"People think that players can come into a team and it all clicks right away. Sometimes it does and that is great, but the majority of times it doesn't. You need to get to know how people play and how they like their service. We are seeing the signs that is happening now.
"With a young team there comes some apprehension but once they find their feet, they realise that they can do it at this level. They have that bit of confidence. Winning helps build confidence and if you are winning games the confidence comes."
The season is yet young and every opponent poses a problem in the First Division, even so the game at Firhill on 10th November is one the Pars must reach without losing ground on the league leaders. Next time Andy hopes his side will be much better prepared than they were on 18th August:-
"We got beat by Partick Thistle but on the day I don't think that there was much between the teams. We had not really hit the ground when we played that game. If we got them now or in a few months time I'd fancy us. Deservedly so, they are getting the plaudits now and winning every game. They are flying and doing well but we are up there touching them and it will be interesting to see how we get on the next time we play them. That is one I'll be looking forward to."
