The 1961 Scottish Cup Winning team were honoured at the 2011 Dunfermline Athletic Hall of Fame. Club Historian, Duncan Simpson explained the significance:-
"This the 50th anniversary of what is arguably Dunfermline Athletic`s greatest ever triumph. I say greatest ever because lots of wonderful things happened and of course we did win the cup again seven years after that. But it broke the mould, up until 1961 Dunfermline had been a very run of the mill, essentially Second Division (old) team who had occasionally got up into the First Division.
"Jock Stein arrived and as everybody knows the whole thing changed. Even then nobody even in their wildest dreams could have imagined that just under a year later Dunfermline would go on to win the national trophy."
Previous Hall of Fame awards had been bestowed on ten of the players who played in that 1961 Scottish Cup run:- Eddie Connachan, Jim Herriott, Cammy Fraser, Willie Cunningham, Ron Mailer, George Miller, Alex Smith, Charlie Dickson, Harry Melrose and George Peebles. There were 15 players used in total and it was a real team effort to bring that cup success so it was only right and important to honour the other five - John Sweeney, Dan McLindon, Jackie Williamson, Davie Thomson and the now deceased Tommy McDonald.
Charlie Dickson, Ron Mailer and Davie Thomson
Davie Thomson famously came into the Cup Final Replay team against Celtic and scored the first of the two goals. John Sweeney also came in for the replay after Jackie Williamson, an ever present during the campaign was injured in the Final. Dan McLindon missed out on the Cup Final Replay after playing on the Saturday, Tommy McDonald developed appendicitis on the eve of the Final and missed out completely.
On Saturday 5th November 2011 on behalf of the team, the Pars captain who lifted the Scottish Cup in 1961, Ron Mailer received a special award from 1968 Cup Winning Captain, Roy Barry.
