Austin McCann Post Hibs
Sunday, 6th Nov 2011Goalscoring hero had forgotten how to celebrate after seven lean years
Austin McCann said that to score the winning goal was "extra special" and with it being his first for over seven years he had forgotten how to celebrate one:-
"I have been playing in a back three but the manager pushed me up to wing back. It's the first time I have played there since my days at Airdrie. I got to the back post to meet a fantastic delivery from Paul Willis, he had a good game today, and I was just glad to get on the end of it.
"Willis and Kirkie worked it well from the throw in. I saw it getting played in and I just made my run in behind the full back. It was a great ball in and I just had to connect with it to hit the back of the net."
Typically the captain played down his part in the win:-
"It is more important that the team got a win because confidence has taken a bit of a hit with the run we have been on. We have been under a bit of pressure, so to come to Easter Road and get a result is fantastic."
Ozzie could still remember his last goal - for Boston United against Cambridge United in September 2004.
"It has been a long time coming. My last two goals have been last minute winners so to score with 87 minutes to go left lots to do. The back three defended really well and were outstanding.
"It is a massive three points for us" but Austin believed the way the home crowd turned on their team helped the Fifers cause:-
"We talked about that before the game, if we started the game well, not necessarily scoring a goal but put them under pressure. The early goal killed the atmosphere and put more pressure on the Hibs players. They battled on but the boys at the back made sure that we didn't throw it away."
