Pittodrie unacceptable to Macca
Thursday, 6th Oct 201106/10/11: JM- "We have been through the video with a fine toothed comb. The players were embarrassed watching it again but they watched every minute of it.
Jim McIntyre and his players know that in the recent matches against Rangers and Aberdeen that they have just not turned up. He told the website that the performance against Aberdeen was "unacceptable" and his side must get back to basics:-
"It could have been more than four. The players were hurting and embarrassed as we were - we let ourselves down, the fans down and the Club down.
"We have spent a fair bit of time watching the video because it is important that we learn from Pittodrie and make sure that if we are going to lose a match then we lose it the right way. That was certainly not the right way."
The Manager is keen to single out that this poor showing has been restricted to just two of the nine SPL games:-
"You get out on that training field and keep working. You highlight to the players that we have a good team, we have competed well in seven other games. Let's not think it is worse than what it is. The performance at Aberdeen was terrible, there is no taking away from that but at the same time you have to remind yourselves that in every other game, maybe barring the Motherwell game where we still showed a great reaction when we went 3-0 down, we had a chance of winning.
"For me it is not a crisis. It is two really poor performances, as poor as you can get and the players have been told in no uncertain terms that this will not be tolerated"
The next game will prove if these two matches are just a blip and the Pars can get back to winning matches:-
"You have to remember that we are used to winning games but that is not going to happen all the time in this league. What we can do is make sure that we are working our tail off for each other as a team and helping your team mate out who may be in trouble. We have not done that in the last two games.
"When we got success at St Johnstone and at Dundee United we have looked like a team; we have been solid and even when we have been under lots of pressure we have had bodies in the line. The last two games we have played like a team of individuals.
"You can't play as individuals, you must play as a team. There will be individual mistakes and there will be errors but it is how you react to that. There has not been a reaction as a team to losing the goals
"We have been through the video with a fine toothed comb. The players were embarrassed watching it again but they watched every minute of it. There wasn't much in the way of good stuff but one or two times when we did pressurise Aberdeen as a team, then they gave us the ball back. But you need to do that for 90 minutes, not one or two minutes out of ninety. That's something we need to get back to; doing that ugly side. In the last two games we have not done that at all and that's the reason for getting well and truly beaten."
The Manager confirmed that his injury list is unlikely to be reduced by the time of the next SPL match at home to Hearts. Dunfermline will play St Johnstone on Friday 7th October in Perth in a 'bounce' game.
