Martin's Mysterious Injury
Wednesday, 5th Oct 2011"I just want to be out there doing the best for the team and everybody connected with the club.
Martin Hardie is still struggling from an injury incurred in the opening SPL game and his recovery has included acupunture:-
"I kicked a boys stud late on in the St Mirren game. The incident saw my toe swell up and by playing regularly with the problem the fluid started to flow back up my foot and into my ankle.
"Little did I know that I was making it worse because I was protecting my foot with the way I was running. I knew when I was running in the St Johnstone and Motherwell game that things weren't right.
"The last game I played was against Motherwell and there times when I played a pass and I never had the full use of my ankle. I knew within myself that even a relatively pass wasn't going to anybody in black and white. The MRI scan showed up that there was something wrong and I had picked up a wee daft injury that I didn't know much about. It was just something I had never come across in all my time in the game."
Martin is not back in training but easing his way back with some light jogging. The tendons in his foot are back moving again but he maintains that it will be a day at a time.
"I will not put any timescale on it. If I keep improving and getting out on the training field then I will know how long it will be until I can be involved in team selection."
Sitting on the sidelines has not been enjoyable for the 35 year old midfielder, he missed the trip to Aberdeen but was at the Rangers game:-
"I just want to be out there doing the best for the team and everybody connected with the club. Hopefully I will be able to train in the next couple of weeks."
