Dunfermline Athletic are pleased to announce the signing of Callum Morris. Speaking exclusively to the website Manager Jim Jefferies introduced his new player:-
"He is a 22 year old central defender who was under Kevin Keegan and had been at Newcastle United since he was a youngster. There he played in some first team pre season matches but never really made his full debut. When Kevin Keegan left there was a change of manager who had his own ideas.
"By coincidence he went over to Spain and played at the same club as Alex Whittle did - Jerez with Glenn Hoddle. There were a number of clubs chasing his signature but we got him up and we were really impressed with him in a closed doors game at Livingston.
"He is six foot three, quick and a good competitor. In training we have been thoroughly pleased with him and he has now been signed. Hopefully we can get clearance for him on Monday and who knows we might see him playing on Tuesday."
Morris played for Blyth Spartans following his release from Newcastle United and went on to make seven appearances for the Northumberland club before going on to the Glenn Hoddle Academy based at Bisham Abbey. This Academy was set up to give footballers who had dropped out of the professional game a second chance of making it in the full time game.
As part of the move Morris featured for the Spanish Fourth Division side for Jerez Industrial CF, where he gained full time, senior football experience. Callum played five European Qualifying matches for the Republic of Ireland U21s between October 2009 and March 2010 and also featured last season in the Blue Square Premier League for Hayes and Yeading.
