Ryan at the double
Saturday, 11th Aug 2012Midfielder Ryan Thomson is Pars top goalscorer after match day one
Ryan Thomson scored twice in the Pars 4-0 win over Cowdenbeath on Saturday. The 21 year old was also named as the match sponsors Man of the Match, an unusual occurrence for a visiting player. The midfielder gave his thoughts after the match:-
"It was very important that we got away to a good start. It was a scrappy first half but at the end of the day to come here and win 4-0 is a great result especially with the new signings in the team, We have shown other teams that we can do well this year, we just need to follow this up with a win next week. It gives us an incentive to kick on from here."
It was the first time that Ryan had ever scored two goals in a professional match and he felt that these happened very quickly. Sitting on the possibility of a hattrick Ryan admitted he would have been buzzing had that happened. He talked through his goals:-
"The first one was a header but the second one was a left footed half volley - I didn't see that coming to be honest. I was quite surprised with myself but a goal's a goal. I had a hand in the first goal too. I just managed to get in front of the keeper to put him off. I don't know what happened after that because I was on the ground. I just turned around and saw the ball in the net.
"Every week we need to go out with the same mentality and hopefully we can do well this season."
