DAFC U19 Player of the Year
Friday, 11th May 2012Eighteen year old Shaun Byrne has been named the Dunfermline Athletic Under 19 Player of the Year for season 2011-12
Dunfermline Athletic Player of the Year Awards 2011-12:
Shaun Byrne - U19 Player of the Year
David Graham - Player of the Year
Ryan Thomson - Young Player of the Year
Eighteen year old Shaun Byrne has been at Dunfermline Athletic since U15 level. He is a silky playmaker with great football vision. He enjoys possession of the ball and has the ability to change games around.
His Dunfermline career began under Eric Archibald, then David Bingham and Ian Fergus for his first year at U17's. Gordon Durie and Stevie Paterson were his coaches during his second year at U17 level when he started to become included in the U19 team, under Hamish French.
Shaun stood out in the U19s and although he was made available to play in Scottish Youth Cup ties this season, did not play too many other games for the U19's this term. The SPL's U21 rule has meant that he has also been involved with the first team squad. This has been beneficial since he has been included in training and in bounce games where he has played both with and against experienced players.
Jim McIntyre saw potential in the lad who hails from Kennoway, and was pleased to be able to offer him his first professional contract in January this year. He worked hard to get this two year deal and he will put in a lot more hard work during it.
Hopefully another success from the Pars youth system who can make it through to become a first team regular.
