Alex Keddie Post Motherwell
Sunday, 4th Mar 2012"There is no sob story here, we got beat and that was it. We move on to the next game.
Alex Keddie felt that there was little between Motherwell and Dunfermline up until the opening goal:-
"They then pushed on to get the second goal. Unfortunately they got it and it was disappointing given the way we played and the positions that we got into to score ourselves. We just didn't quite get that goal."
The turning point of the match was undoubtedly the inability of keeper Chris Smith to stop a shot low to his near post in 64 minutes. Admitted as a mistake, Alex thought that was typical of the bad luck that Dunfermline has been tarnished with this season:-
"Sometimes when you are in the position that we are in things either go for you or they don't. They are not going for us at the moment in terms of situations like that. Chris has had a magnificent game pulling off a couple of great saves. We win and lose as a team; there is no blame being set on any player."
Alex pointed out that Saturday's opponents were having an exceptionally good season and had been tough opposition for a team desperately seeking points:-
"They are the third best team in Scotland at the moment and are pushing Rangers for second place. They are a fantastic team despite over the piece you couldn't split the teams, they beat us 2-0."
There were some positives to take from the 90 minutes, none greater than the good defensive performance outside the two incidents that lead to Motherwell's goals. Alex was not willing to accept any praise:-
"Defenders take pride in clean sheets and we have not done that enough this season. We know that we can defend well as a team and as a back four. We felt the Motherwell game was maybe a chance of a starter to try and pick up clean sheets. We played well but we still conceded two goals.
"The first goal was unfortunate, on another day it could have cannoned off the post or gone out. Maybe there could have been a block on it.
"The boys are saying that we should have dealt better as a team with the second goal, not just as a back four. Obviously it all started with the corner kick, it was a good finish from the boy Ojamaa but he shouldn't have been allowed the space in the box that he got.
"When you put so much into the game as a team and as a unit you are expecting more out of the game but we never got that. There is no sob story here, we got beat and that was it. We move on to the next game.
"It doesn't really matter what Hibs do, we need to be winning games and picking up points. Hibs will look after themselves and we will do too."
