New Murals
Dunfermline Athletic Football Club in collaboration with Visit Dunfermline are delighted to announce that new murals designed by local school and college students have been unveiled this week at East End Park.
There are three different murals in all - the children from Park Road Primary School have designed a new mural for the Norrie McCathie Stand; four Advance Higher Art students from Queen Anne High School designed the mural in the East (Away) Stand; and students from Carnegie College's Design and Digital Media Course have had their mural installed also in the East Stand.
Tracey Martin, Marketing Director, commented:-
"We are delighted to work with Visit Dunfermline in this way and with such imaginative and creative local students.
"When Thomas Moffat emailed the proposed Visit Dunfermline Banners I thought it made sense to have these on display in our away end concourse as it provides them with an opportunity to be seen by over 3000 away fans at our larger games. I thought even if it encouraged a few to come back and visit Dunfermline then it was worth it - plus it really brightens up this stand.
"The fact that we were then able to involve Park Road Primary School, Queen Anne High School and Carnegie College has been fantastic as it's great to see these young people's creativity in action and emphasises our commitment to being at the heart of the local community."
Thomas Moffat of Visit Dunfermline:-
"It has been an absolute pleasure to work on this project and a delight to discover the sheer degree of creative talent that exists in Dunfermline. This will be a stepping stone for Visit Dunfermline and DAFC and I cannot wait to undertake similar projects in the near future. Tracey from DAFC was fantastic in opening the doors of East End Park to these pupils and students and nothing was too much trouble to Jim Leishman in acknowledging and meeting everyone involved."
Murals in Family Section of Norrie McCathie Stand - designed by Emma Smith (P7) from Park Road Primary School in Dunfermline.
"The Family Stand Mural idea came about after I had attended a SPL Family Champions seminar last summer to encourage all SPL clubs to improve the family experience and I wanted to get a local school involved to design a mural for the Family section in our Norrie McCathie stand. I have to say the Mural designed by Emma really does make a huge difference to our Family Section - it has given it a fantastic face lift and we will be doing more over the coming months to make it as a family friendly as possible. "
Mural in East Stand - designed by Anna Ginnerup Strachan, Rachael Robertson, Emily Stewart and Caitlin Stewart who are all studying photography at Queen Anne High School, and decided to use this medium in their mural of Dunfermline. The result is a vibrant collection of scenes from some of the most famous landmarks in the town. Featuring the Abbey, City Chambers, the Palace and the Glen Gates topped off with three amazing flying Dragon Gargoyles, the finished project really captures the essence of Dunfermline!
Murals in East Stand - Speaking about the project Carnegie College lecturer in Design and Digital media, Colin Maxwell said "The College was approached by Thomas Moffat from Visit Dunfermline to take part in this project. The students discussed who they thought should represent Dunfermline and then using their design and digital computing skills produced the artwork. To see the end product in place at East End Park has made all their hardwork really worthwhile and has given the students experience of an actual brief and industry experience."
The heroes chosen by the students were writers John Burnside and Ian Banks, Kenneth Cranham, film, television and stage actor, John Cairney, actor and Robert Burns afficiando, musicians Barbara Dickson, Ian Anderson and Richard Jobson, football noteables Craig Levein and Jim Leishman, and last but not least, college namesake Andrew Carnegie.
