Managers Post Aberdeen
Saturday, 28th Jan 201228/01/12: JM - ""There were a lot of pleasing aspects of the game but the bottom line is that we have no points out of it. It has been a disappointing day."
Jim McIntyre felt that his side were unlucky not to take something from the game against Aberdeen:-
"I thought we played exceptionally well, we deserved at least a point out of the game if not more because I thought we were the better team.
"We had a great chance to score the first goal which we should have buried. Then we made a mistake for their goal; that is the story of the game. In terms of performance levels I am really pleased. I thought the players were excellent, we passed the ball and showed some great football. I was pleased with that side of it."
The Manager admitted that a mistake was made for the Aberdeen goal that came from Scott Vernon after 24 minutes:-
"That was there for everybody to see. What we need to do is take the positives out of how we played. It is a slap in the face not to leave here with any points after playing as well as we did.
"There is no doubt that we had the best chances to score first. That is just as crucial as not making mistakes; it has been our achilles heel this season. When we have had good chances we have not taken them. The first goal is vitally important but we have to credit the players they kept going, kept passing it and some of the stuff was really good.
"We had a couple of near things across the face of the six yard box that we felt that we could have been on the end of. We put some good dangerous balls into the box. The back four were excellent because Aberdeen are a real handful from middle to front. I thought we dealt with that really well.
"There were a lot of pleasing aspects of the game but the bottom line is that we have no points out of it. It has been a disappointing day."
Aberdeen manager Craig Brown played tribute to his opponents and wanted to put the result in perspective:-
"We were playing a team that a week ago went to Kilmarnock and beat a top six team 3-0. So if you say our performance wasn't up to standard you are doing a disservice to Dunfermline who are a better side than their league position. They played well, our performance was assured. I didn't feel that we looked like losing a goal. Our keeper had one save in the first half and if you are getting clean sheets then you have a chance of winning games.
"I will take a result at home of that nature particularly against a very dangerous opposing team. There have been a lot poorer teams than Dunfermline here at Aberdeen this season. So I have great respect for Jim McIntyre, Gerry McCabe and their team and that is why I am delighted to manage to win the game because they will win more games now than they will lose. I just feel that they have something about them, the determination and some good players. I wish them well."
