Rust on Steelmen
Monday, 23rd Jan 2012Kev looks to take form into Motherwell game - "It is strange how ninety minutes can swing almost an entire season.
Kevin Rutkiewicz is hoping the build on what he described as the Pars "most impressive team performance of the year":-
"From the Big Yin in goal all the way through to the front two, I thought it was excellent. I don't think there was a failure on the park. We certainly were on top of the game and everybody ticked the boxes and did the basics well."
That is what it is going to take with everyone playing to that standard to the very least to give themselves a chance to stave off relegation. With a win over Motherwell to lift them off the foot of the table for the first time since November, there can be no better incentive:-
"It is strange how ninety minutes can swing almost an entire season. The fans all of a sudden get a wee bit noisier and their belief has been installed back in them."
The belief that the squad has maintained within the four walls of their dressing room has enabled the Pars survival agenda to remain realistic.
"We can take a massive step tomorrow night but it is still going to go down to the wire if you ask me personally. It would be nice if we could drag one or two others into it rather than just Dunfermline chasing Hibs. The more we can get involved in the pack the better chance of pulling ourselves out."
The 31 year old defender was adamant that defeat in the Scottish Cup to Inverness coupled with the huge financial blow, was the catalyst that kindled the performance that disposed of Kilmarnock. The new signings - Iain Turner and Mark Kerr - and the players returning from injury and the poor result galvanised the resolve.
"There was certainly a reaction from minute one on Saturday. It was a great team performance, we were biting and scratching for every ball. That's what has been happening to us so it was nice to turn the tables.
"It is important that our games in hand count for something. It is a bit like this time last year in the First Division when it was about keeping up the momentum, totting the points up week in week out whether it was a draw or three points. It is going to be a bit more difficult, we are facing superior opposition in the Premier League but that's what we have to do."
Kevin is out to keep a clean sheet at Motherwell so that at least a point can be brought back but he was well aware of just how well the Steelmen are going this season:-
"They are going for Europe and we are bottom of the league - that's the gap. It will be a massive result if we are to take anything but we go into the game with belief and confidence in our own ability."
