Keystone Kev Cops it for Pars
Thursday, 19th Jan 2012"Between the two of us, me and big Chris gave a good impression of the Keystone Cops. That's the way that it has been going ..
Kevin Rutkiewicz felt that comedy was the best description of the Inverness opener:-
"Between the two of us, me and big Chris gave a good impression of the Keystone Cops. That's the way that it has been going but these are wee things that we have to rectify. I am certainly not going to get too down in the mouth about it.
"It is not a time to feel sorry for yourself, that can quickly snowball into really bad results. Right now it is about rallying around each other and regardless about what the press are saying, the other teams and other players and what they think, it is up to us to prove every one of them wrong.
"We have a lot of doubters there. We need no more motivation than that to go and stick it up to a few of them; make a fist of it at the very least. That is what we intend to do. Obviously we have had a wee bash at each other after the game, that's a natural reaction and it is a positive reaction given the fact that we have had a disappointing result. We can't have an acceptance about it."
Despite the cup defeat Kevin was glad to get what was just his second game of this season:-
"It was not the result that we were after but from a personal point of view it was good to be back. We have just got to put it to bed and move on. There's room now for feeling sorry for ourselves, we are going into a hard stage but one that I am looking forward to. I'd much rather be fighting for my life in the Premier League than battling for a First Division title. I am looking forward to it and just buzzing to be back really."
The 31 year old defender has been over five months without regular football so it was no surprise that he had to come off with cramp after 75 minutes:-
"I will rest up tomorrow. It is hard to get reserve games with the time of year. It is difficult because teams are busy but I will be fine for Saturday. I will get a rub down on Thursday, expect to train on Friday and I will be good to go.
"Against Inverness it was a case of going as long as I could. It went to plan except for that moment of madness there. I am happy enough with my own performance, we will move on hopefully onward and upwards."
A relegation battle will be no different to how Kevin feels his whole footballing career has gone:-
"You are always fighting to prove people wrong or prove people right. The gaffer here believes in us, he has defended us all season and defended us to the hilt. We need to prove him right and by doing that we will also prove the doubters wrong. It is a double edged sword - we have got to man up. We need to get behind each other, there is no other way about it and it is not going to be easy.
"We knew coming into this season what our agenda was, we knew that it was going to be a struggle. If we can get teams close enough to us, which is going to be vital in the next three or four games - their agendas at the start of the season might have been a bit different. We knew that we were going to roll up our sleeves and hopefully we might catch them cold. We know we are in a battle and that we are in it for the long haul but we are ready for it and have been since the start of the season."
