Friday Night Football for the Pars
Friday, 9th Sep 2011The Pars away match against Aberdeen has been brough forward a day, and will be the first SPL match to be played on a Friday night
The Scottish Premier League (SPL) and Scottish Football League (SFL) today (Friday) announced fixtures to be played on a Friday night. The fixtures have been selected following close consultation with the Police and the Scottish FA. This is a pilot project to enable all involved to understand the advantages and disadvantages of such scheduling. None of the matches will be broadcast live.
Aberdeen v Dunfermline: Friday 30/09/2011 7.45pm
Partick Thistle v Morton: Friday 30/09/2011 7.45pm
Neil Doncaster, Chief Executive of the SPL, said: "The SPL is committed to supporting our clubs' efforts to increase attendances and improve the matchday experience for fans. Working with the Police and our colleagues at the SFL and Scottish FA, these fixtures have been chosen as a pilot and with the supporters very much in mind. We would encourage fans to get in touch and let us hear their views and feedback on Friday night football in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League."
David Longmuir, Chief Executive of the SFL, said: "We are delighted to have come to a position where Friday night football is being given a chance. Following close cooperation and consultation with the Police, the SPL, and the SFA, the SFL are looking forward to testing the positive impact that Friday night games may have. Our Football Communities are our lifeblood and we must try to give fans as much choice as possible in when they can watch their team."
