Mason with something to build on
Saturday, 27th Aug 2011"It is still early doors and no one at the Club is getting carried away but we have something
Gary Mason is one of only two players from either Dunfermline or Motherwell who played on the last occasion that these sides last met in the SPL in May 2007.
"It has been a good start to the season and hopefully that continues. Tuesday was just one of those games; we need to give credit to East Fife because they played really well on the night and we just didn't perform. We need to get that out of our system and move on to the next game against Motherwell."
Gary feels that the SPL pace is a lot quicker and they were fortunate not to lose their opening game against St Mirren on 25th July. He points out though that the Pars team responded from that fright to perform really well in the next three league fixtures:-
"The league is the bread and butter and we want to continue that form. Priority, first and foremost, is to stay in the league. Even given the league place and the way it has gone so far, we will not get carried away. It is still early doors and no one at the Club is getting carried away but we have something to build on now."
Fans expectation levels get raised but Gary claims that the team just needs to continue doing what they have been doing in recent games:-
"Working hard to get 1-0 victories. It is never easy - the majority of teams can beat one another. We have been defending well, there are goals in the team and we have shown the character by scoring in the 85th minute. Obviously that's what is needed, our defence is tight and we have players to hurt teams."
Motherwell are a good team who work for one another observed Gary but with the international break following this weekend's fixtures everyone wants to enter that with a win:-
"They are a good side and won't be easy opponents. It will be an open game between teams who both like to attack."
