John Potter in action for St Mirren against Dunfermline
Jim McIntyre is delighted to have agreed terms with former Pars defender John Potter and the 31 year old will return to East End Park subject to passing a medical on Monday. The Manager said:-
"I am really pleased to bring in someone with great experience and a proven Premier League player. He was captain of St Mirren for the last three seasons and he is a real leader on the park. He joins us on a one year deal."
John made 25 appearances for Dunfermline between 1999 and 2002. The Dunfermline born player then moved on to Clyde where was he was an ever present in the first team and for 2004-05 made the captain. He joined St Mirren in July 2005, winning promotion in the first season there.
The Manager is currently on an extremely brief family holiday in Spain following a week in Denmark as part of the UEFA Pro Licence that he is working towards. He described that as very hard work for all 22 on the SFA course but he did have the privilege of being able to take in four UEFA Under 21 Championship games - England's matches against Spain and Ukraine, and Belarus's games against Iceland and Denmark.
Macca's globetrotting will see him at Pitreavie for the start of training on Wednesday but the passport will be kept at the ready since he is taking his squad to Obertraun in the Dachstein area of Austria on Sunday 10th July. He commented:-
"I am thrilled that we are able to go back to Austria; it is a fantastic facility there. It is a place I know really well, a great place to put in the work and on first class playing surfaces. We will arrange matches for the Tuesday and Thursday that will provide a step up in opposition for us after three games against lower league sides in Scotland."
Livingston and Brechin City are already announced as pre season friendlies and the squad will take in a closed doors friendly versus Airdrie United on the Saturday before they leave for Austria.
