The Club's Under 19 Player of the Year was announced at the Sportsmans Dinner on Saturday 14th May. It went to striker Steven Leslie who has been a regular in the Under 19s for the last two seasons. Although many supporters watch that team's results and match reports to see if they can spot any rising stars, it was in the Reserve League Cup Final played on 31st August last year that Steven really caught the eye.
The final was played against Raith Rovers at Starks Park and Dunfermline looked down and out at 3-1 down with 16 minutes left on the clock. Alex Burke got a goal back and then within a minute Steven grabbed a spectacular equaliser. He then put the Pars ahead for the first time in the tie before completing his hat-trick from the penalty spot at the end.
He has done remarkably well for a November born player continuing his goalscoring habit throughout the 2010-11 season where his speed and rapid response have made him the opposition's man to fear.
Steven Leslie who will be 19 on his next birthday, attended Kirkcaldy High School and got involved in football first at Woodside Boys Club in Glenrothes before moving on to Kingdom Thistle in Thornton. He had a year away from them with Raith Rovers at U14 level but it was from Kingdom that Steven joined Dunfermline U17s.
The Kirkcaldy born striker was selected for Scotland Boys in 2008.
Pars Young Player of the Year - Joe Cardle
Super Joe has become a huge fan's favourite and it's easy to see why. The 23 year old Blackpool born winger can mesmerise any defence with his dribbling skills and he also can fire in a terrific shot. There has also been a noticeable change in the way that Joe has turned provider this season. Joe has come on strongly in the final quarter of the season. Joe has made 23 starts, 9 sub appearances and scored 4 goals this season.
Pars Player of the Year - Gary Mason
The 31 year old midfielder missed just two league games this season due to suspension, but otherwise the man whose name must be just about the first on the team sheet each week. Not every player returns to their former club successfully but Gary has done so in style. A great player with great link up play and ability to break up the opposition attacks. Gary has made a total of 34 league appearances this season, however he was unable to find the back of the net this season. This brings Gary's total appearances for the Club to 294, scoring 15 goals.
