Burkey 100 and out
Monday, 9th May 2011"It was emotional being the last man off the park with the trophy but it was even more emotional in the dressing room before we came back out again.
Alex Burke enjoyed his day of celebration on Saturday:-
"It might never happen again, just enjoy it. The boys have been great all season so we need to milk it. We have been doing that and its brilliant.
"It has been a perfect day all around and it is a privilege to be part of it. The week has been a bit more relaxed than normal. We have won five before today, unbeaten in eleven and wanted to end the season on a high. The boys can take the confidence of being unbeaten in twelve now into the SPL."
The 33 year old was Jim McIntyre's first signing but even scoring one of the most spectacular goals of the season at Dens Park, Alex will not be back when the Pars take on the SPL:-
"The gaffer has not offered me a new contract so I was just determined to enjoy the celebrations. I will be going away with the boys to Magaluf, where we will have a couple of shandies, then I will come back and put my name about and see if there is interest in me."
Even though the rain came pouring down to try and dampen the spirits in the post match celebrations, nothing was going to hasten Burkey's departure from East End Park:-
"It was emotional being the last man off the park with the trophy but it was even more emotional in the dressing room before we came back out again. The gaffer had a wee speech for me with this being my 100th and final appearance. He thanked me for everything I had done and the boys gave me a wee round of applause.
"It was well appreciated. It was great that everyone thought so highly of me and I was delighted with that."
