Nick Phinn Post Falkirk

Sunday, 8th May 2011

New one year contract for Nick who can now look forward to going life in the SPL and especially to Celtic Park.

Nick Phinn was happy with the win over Falkirk for a multitude of reasons. Not only was he a member of the championship winning side and scored two goals against Falkirk, he could celebrate agreeing a new one year deal to stay at the Club for its first season back in the SPL.

"I doubled my tally in one day. Good considering that I wasn't feeling too great during the week - towards the end of the game I was starting to struggle a little bit. The victory in itself and the enthusiasm gets you through.

"We approached it like we approached every game; we never took our foot off the gas. We knew Falkirk would want to come here and spoil the party but happily enough for us they didn't manage to do that. A great result to set us up for the party afterwards!"

Reflecting on the scenes of celebration at East End Park on Saturday, Nick added:-

"It is great especially when all your family and friends are up in the stand. You see them after the game when you have the trophy; it is just a great feeling."

The 22 year old midfielder explained that it can also be one of the worst times of the season:-

"When you know that boys are being let go and losing a lot of very close friends but I am sure they will keep in touch. It is one of the best changing rooms that I have been involved in football.

"I agreed the contract yesterday and then to get a start today, it was brilliant to be involved in the game and the celebrations at the end.

"We were at the stage where we didn't know which league we were going to be in. At a lot of clubs the money is not as good as it used to be but the club getting promotion helped a lot of the boys out with the finances being better at the Club. That was certainly a bonus with the boys."

It is five years since Nick made his SPL debut, coming on as a sub at Tynecastle and then being handed his first start at the Falkirk Stadium. His third and final SPL appearance was at Inverness so he still has the prospect of coming up against the Old Firm to relish:-

"Here's hoping that next year we can do ourselves justice in the SPL and hopefully we will play the same way. The gaffer is always at us to get the ball down and play with tricky wingers.

"You always look forward to playing against the big two, Rangers and Celtic. It is great to go to these places and I have never managed to play at Celtic Park so it would be a big thing if I could be involved in a game like that. I am looking forward to those kind of games."
