Dunfermline Athletic

Title no.2 for Steven McDougall

Friday, 6th May 2011

"You would never know the league had been won the way we have been running about in training. We're looking forward to the game and want to finish on a high ..

Steven McDougall

Steven McDougall was delighted to have scored the first goal on Saturday at Cappielow but reports that the day is all a bit of a blur.

"It was a massive high.  Ecstatic to win the league. We knew that if we won then the league was ours.  It was a challenge but obviously one that everyone wanted to be involved in and we are obviously delighted.

"It was definitely a big team effort.  If you look at the season, everyone has played their part.  You need a big strong team and thankfully we had that.

Though still only 24 years of age Steven has already won the Second Division title with Airdrie and also the Challenge Cup a couple of years ago.

"I wouldn't say I was used to winning, I've also been relegated with Airdrie, but this is the first time winning the First Division. "

He is out of contract this month at Dunfermline but hopes to be given a shot in the SPL:-

"Hopefully I will find out in the next wee while, fingers crossed.  Everybody in Scotland wants to play at the highest level and that is the SPL and I'm no different.I would pretty much looking forward to every game but my family are all Rangers fans so I would imagine that would be a big occasion."

Turning back to Saturday's finale versus Falkirk Steven felt that there was no point in playing the full season and then getting beat in the last game:-

"We have been training as normal this week.  You would never know the league had been won the way we have been running about in training.  We're looking forward to the game and want to finish on a high.  It's about pride as well, we don't want a defeat after the season we have had, especially a derby game as well.We definitely want to win."

A great send off is certainly what Steven in looking for since he is getting married in June, then off on honeymoon. "I'm looking forward to it - it's just six weeks away."
