Pars calling delights former Saint

Season of success for keeper, Chris Smith:- "Everybody in the squad realises that they have achieved something massive for a very big club ..

Goalkeeper Chris Smith has played in all but one of the Pars 43 games this season. He missed the Scottish Cup tie at Aberdeen after his red card in the previous round against Montrose. Last Saturday he marked his 50th appearance for the Pars with his 16th shut out of the season yet he was still playing down his success on Tuesday when he spoke to the website:-

"The Manager brought me in to do a job and hopefully I have done that for him. Obviously I know myself that sometimes it has not been as good as it should be. Hopefully, all going well, I will get another chance up in the SPL if the Manager wants me."

Chris was on loan to the Pars from St Mirren for eight games last season and was subsequently signed by Jim McIntyre in July 2010:-

"I got a one year deal at the start of the season which was fine for me when I was just trying to get back playing. I have played forty odd games this season that have put me back in about it."

The 25 year old stopper thoroughly enjoyed the winning feeling that swept Cappielow after the final whistle:-

"It was brilliant on Saturday, a wee bit tense up until that final whistle went but it was just a massive relief. Even when I signed at the start of the season there was no doubt that we would be champions. Hard work and the effort that the boys have put in along with the gaffer and Cabie have been beneficial. At the final whistle on Saturday it all came home.

"Everybody in the squad realises that they have achieved something massive for a very big club. When we get our medals on Saturday we will be checking what they say. Winning cups is one thing but going the distance in the league is totally different, so hopefully the boys will have good memories. Hopefully we can relax and enjoy the moment on Saturday because these kind of things don't come around every year."
