Jim McIntyre Post Morton
Saturday, 30th Apr 201130/04/11: JM - "The players have been magnificent here and we have to say a big thank you to the board - there's not many young managers get three and a half years to take something apart and rebuild
It was an elated Jim McIntyre who spoke to just about every media source possible after winning promotion to the SPL for Dunfermline:-
"Coming to Cappielow, one of the most difficult away venues, and put on a performance like we did was pleasing. We were at them right from the off; it would be easy to come here thinking about other places and other results but we never. We kept to our game plan, tried to attack them and I thought we did that really well. We should have possibly have been further ahead."
The Pars certainly displayed championship winning style, unbeaten in the last eleven league games they won the last five.
"We finished the way we started; we started the season really well and we spoke about breaking the league up into sections and trying to get points tallies from each but the bottom line is all about players. The players have been magnificent here and we have to say a big thank you to the board - there's not many young managers get three and a half years to take something apart and rebuild something. Every manager needs that; I am only a rookie so I am so pleased for them because it is them who have to find the money in these difficult circumstances. This is a great reward to them today.
"David Graham's goal was a fantastic goal. We said to him at half time that we needed to get him on the ball and get a wee bit end product out of you. He has been great for me, he has done very well."
Asked if the style of football that has won Dunfermline the First Division would be taken into the Premier League, Macca said:-
"We will continue to try and play football. Results dictate how you play - if you are getting hammered every week then you need to look to change things or else there will be someone else in my hot seat. That's the way it is but whatever formation we play we will always try and pass the ball."
The Manager was full of praise for his support who travelled to Greenock in their thousands:-
"It's been a great day. On the way here we could see the amount of Dunfermline scarves hanging out the cars. We knew that there was a big following coming to get right behind us. A huge thanks goes to them.
"The fans have been magnificent. I made a wee rally cry a few weeks back saying that we really need them and they have been great. We are in difficult times just now with all the money that is involved in a recession and the cost to go to football. I hope they have a great night tonight and party on into the week.
"I am thrilled for everybody connected with the Club that we did it today and not have to worry about next week. It is what we were after before the game and the boys deserve enormous credit. We never made a lot of changes in the summer because we believed that we had a capable squad there who we thought we could get more consistency out of. That proved to be a really good decision; yes we added three or four players but the nucleus of that squad we felt was good enough to mount a challenge."
In an aside after in his comments to Pars TV Jim McIntyre took a second just to look forward to life in the SPL, top of the list he expressed a desire to silence Jim Leishman:-
"We will still be hearing about his winning goal at Ibrox but we need to address that next year. We will enjoy the moment just now and look forward to next Saturday."
