Can Dunfermline win and take the three points that would secure their promotion back to the SPL after a four season absence?

Pictures from Cappielow 6th May 2000

The last time Dunfermline were promoted from the First Division their last away game was at Morton.  That day - 6th May 2000 - Dunfermline lost 2-0 but it didn`t matter since a win at Inverness two weeks before had secured promotion.  That afternoon when just 979 paid to watch as the home fans boycotted the game in protest at their club and climbed the trees to watch from outside Cappielow.

The Dunfermline team against Morton in 2000 was Ian Westwater; Mark McGarty, Justin Skinner, John Potter, Scott Thomson (Brian Reid 76); Hamish French (Kevin McLeish 81), Jason Dair, Stevie Crawford, Stewart Petrie; Lee Bullen, Owen Coyle (Chris Templeman 70).

Dug out at Cappielow

Just over a decade later on 6th November 2010 there was a crowd of 1813 at Cappielow when Dunfermline and Morton last met. That was a bad day as Steven Bell sustained an injury that put him out for the rest of the season and the Pars went down 2-1 to Allan Moore`s men.

The question this Saturday is can Dunfermline win and take the three points that would secure their promotion back to the SPL after a four season absence?  Certainly there would seem to be plenty of Pars fans intending to travel west for the penultimate game of the campaign against Morton.  Jim McIntyre`s team needs little firing up for this one but possibly there are few more difficult away fixtures in the First Division.
