Managers Post Morton

05/03/11 JM:- "they have just had an off day today. It is as bad as it could have been!"

Jim McIntyre admitted that the home defeat to Morton was an "extremely bad day at the office":-

"When you look at the goals that we gave away then you are going to struggle to win any football match. The boys have been excellent lately, I have been really pleased with them but they had a terrible day today - we made three glaring mistakes. We lost three goals but our goalkeeper has not had a save to make."

The Pars gaffer ruled out a suggestion that the pitch had a bearing on the mistakes but felt that they lost goals at crucial moments.

"Look at the times of both the first and second goal; we had barely taken a breath and we were 1-0 down. It was individual error - a terrible decision - and it is a goal. Same again in the second half, we had a chance to clear it and we never - goal.

"At the third one we were pushing bodies forward but it was still there to be defended. It was the wrong decision to head it back to the goalie and bang, another goal. We still created chances; Liam Buchanan had three or four really good chances but when you gift goals like that it saps the confidence as well. You could see the confidence drain from the players with the timing of the goals.

"Hopefully that's one bad day at the 'office' and we have made all our mistakes in the one game."

The Manager was sure his side could bounce back for Tuesday night's visit from Jimmy Calderwood's Ross County:-

"I have got a very good group of players here, they have just had an off day today. It is as bad as it could have been!"

Morton celebrate an opening goal in just 36 seconds

Morton manager Allan Moore was pleased with what he described as a dogged performance:-

"We got off to a flyer but Dunfermline created their own downfall with some of their defending. For the first time in a long while we capitalised on mistakes from other teams. Derek Lyle has taken the chance from the keeper's kick out and the boy thought it was going by and it hit the post. It gave us a good start and something to hold on to.

"Away from home we were trying to play three upfront but at times it was like a five in the middle and we were pegged in a wee bit. Having said that I don't think Dunfermline had any shots on target in the first half. We have got to credit the boys for defending really well. We went out in the second half and kept it really tight and got a wee break for the second early in the second half.

"O'Brien got through, I think it took a bobble and beat both him and the defender. We took advantage of that again but I was disappointed in their goal because we let the boy turn inside. We thought it was going to be backs to the wall stuff, they are going to play a lot of balls into the box but again big Peter (Weatherson) has anticipated the header back and put it away well. Getting that one so near the end gave us a bit of leeway.

"We tried to make sure that their wingers didn't get a lot of crosses into the box.  In the first ten to fifteen minutes they were getting too many crosses into the box and we were getting a bit worried about that. After that we nullified it and in the second half on the break we played some good stuff.

"We knew it would be difficult coming here but we have played Dunfermline three times now this season and we have played well against them every time. At the beginning of the season we came here and for 80 minutes I thought we were the better team but Dunfermline hit us with two succor punches and we went away with nothing. We got the rub of the green today; when you get opportunities you have got to take them. We have been playing well against all the top teams, we are on a great run and we do not fear anybody.

"We have played Raith Rovers, Falkirk and Dunfermline at the beginning of the season and I do not think any of them has given us a doing, we have matched them. The difference is that they have been scoring more goals than us; their better strikers have been putting the ball in the back of the net. Today we got the breaks and that's how we won."
