Chris Smith Post QOS
Sunday, 3rd Oct 2010"I am there to do a job but I haven't done it well today. I will hold my hands up and say I should have done better but it is just one of these things in football,
Pars keeper Chris Smith talked through the goal that gave Queen of the South the lead against Dunfermline on Saturday.
"Big Dowser (Andy Dowie) played the ball back and I just tried to play it across but I went right through it. It was one of those that was coming with a bit of pace and I took my eye off it slightly. It costs you in games like this."
Chris could do very little about the fantastic shot from 40 yards from Willie McLaren that gave Queens their second goal:-
"It was just an unlucky bobble over Chris Higgins foot and it is just one of those things that happen in football. I have taken up the position I would do anyway but it fell nicely for the striker. He was a kind of lazy striker basically walking out after their move broke down but he got a bit of luck and it was a right good finish.
"I am there to do a job but I haven't done it well today. I will hold my hands up and say I should have done better but it is just one of these things in football, I just have to get on with it. I know that I shouldn't get hung up about it and just get back to training and doing well the next game."
Chris maintained that his team mates were supportive even after his 53rd minute mistake:-
"We have got a good bunch of boys, nobody is going to take your head off and they know themselves that it is not like me. I am not going to let it affect me, hopefully I am picked for next game where I can give 110%.
"We got a good result last week against Partick winning two nil then obviously we make a couple of mistakes today and get punished. It is just the job I am in even the mistake for the second goal was farcical. You cannot legislate for it, you just need to brush yourself down and get ready for the next game. We go into the break top of the league although if we had had it our own way we would rather be four points ahead. We have hit the post and the chances didn't go in so we gave ourselves a bit of a battle in the second half against the wind. Two mistakes cost us the game."
