Joe Cardle scored the winning goal against Cowdenbeath and spoke after the victory took the Club to the top of the First Division:-
"The way the game went with them getting the early goal, even though we had most of the possession for the whole game, we just had to be patient and wait for the chance. We were fortunate enough to get the goal and pushed on to get the winner. We are happy with the three points to be fair.
"You expect opposition coming to a ground like this to defend, especially after getting an early goal. They are going to be after the three points or a point. when we got the goal back they were still defending for the point. We were expecting that and if we had taken our chances it could have made it three or four. We are just happy with the 2-1 and the three points to put us top of the league. It couldn't be better."
It could have been better had Joe taken a chance that came after just 70 seconds:-
"The ball just came to me and I just hit it as hard as I could. I didn't really place it at all and it hit the keeper straight on. The boys are saying I could maybe have placed it rather than smash it but I think I made up for it with the winner today.
"I was pleased with the assist for the first goal - Belly's goal. The gaffer has been teaching me that in training for the last two or three weeks - myself and Willie (Gibson). If I put the ball in Willie is at the back post and vice versa. Woodsie put a great ball in there, just teed up Belly but it has come through again. Then I got the chance of my own. It just came over, I think the keeper got a touch on it and I just hit it with my left and it just hit the roof of the net.
"These are the games that we would either have lost or drawn last season through our inconsistency. Even though we didn't play too well today, we stuck it out. In the first half we were defending so much that we couldn't really get through them. We got through in the second half, got the chances and scored the goals.
The Pars will take the boost going into their next match - the Co-operative Insurance Cup tie at Ibrox on Tuesday as First Division leaders. Joe explained that the players had not been allowed to think about the Rangers game ahead of the league match against Cowdenbeath.
