Ryan's Call up
Tuesday, 18th Jan 2011Thommo hopes to be in for the Cup
Midfielder Ryan Thomson only found out he was starting when he turned up at East End Park on Saturday. It was the first league start for the 19 year old who has come through the Dunfermline Athletic youth system. With Nick Phinn nursing an ankle injury, Gary Mason going off on Saturday with a back spasm and Steven Bell out long term there is now an opportunity for Thomson to show what he can do against Montrose in Tuesday night's Scottish Cup Replay.
Ryan was happy with his performance against Dundee, especially in the first half when he was more involved, he is optimistic that might stand him in good stead for more starts:-
"I hope I have done enough to show that I can handle it. Hopefully the Manager will give me a wee run of games. It seemed easier when Dundee had eleven men, when they went down to ten they sat back and were going to be content with a draw."
The youngster had never started a game where there had been so many fans. Last season he was out on loan to Albion Rovers but prior to that his experience was with the under 19s. Nevertheless he was very conscious of the frustration being vented from the stands:-
"The fans knew that we were on top for a long spell but they find it hard to understand when we are going sideways. We wanted to keep the ball and not give it away in stupid positions. Yes the fans found that annoying but we were trying to find space to get a breakthrough. Montrose could play the same way, we will need to have patience. They might fancy their chances after the 2-2. If we play well we should win."
