Pat Clarke Post Montrose
Sunday, 9th Jan 2011"It will be a completely different game at East End Park, they will come down to upset us again. They almost did it on Saturday; they had a good game and the goalie in particular was outstanding.
Dunfermline striker, Pat Clarke came off the bench to strike an equaliser that put his side right back in contention in Saturday's Scottish Cup tie at Montrose. After the match he gave the following reaction:-
"We did well to get ourselves back in the game but then we threw it away with the last kick of the ball. It was a long ball into the box and we didn't clear it well. The ball broke, went straight to Paul Tosh's feet and he has knocked it in.
"It was a bit of a blow for us in the end after coming back from behind to get in front. We needed to keep the lead and see the game out but we failed to do that and were punished in the end.
"Conditions were difficult but we knew that before the game when we went out and had a look at the pitch.Obviously the weather on Friday night there was a lot of snow that then melted. It made it a difficult playing surface but we just tried to play our normal game and get on with it.It was the same for both teams.
"It will be a completely different game at East End Park, they will come down to upset us again. They almost did it on Saturday; they had a good game and the goalie in particular was outstanding. We will need to be ready for them.
"Our final ball was poor and is something we need to work on. It is disappointing when you do all the good play with the nice passing movements that we want to play and then the ball just doesn't beat the first man.It is very frustrating because you want to finish at the end of the day.
"My goal was a wee bit lucky I think. The ball broke at the edge of the box and I just tried to hit the target. The defender got a deflection on it that made it difficult for the goalie but thankfully it went in.It was not a winner so it was disappointing."
Pat had involvement in the second Pars goal just eight minutes later:-
"The delivery came in wide and I just tried to flick it to the back post. Kirkie got the final touch when both Neil McGregor and him were running in and managed to get it over the line.
"We need to go into Tuesday night's game with confidence but learn from Saturday and make sure that never happens again. There have been a few times this season, I am sick of repeating myself, when we get ourselves in front but then we need to be more ruthless to hold the lead or go out for more and finishing the game."
