Phinn down but not out
Monday, 3rd Jan 2011"When you get the goal back you think that you are going to go on to hopefully win the game but to lose it again is a hard one to take."
Despite scoring a fine goal on Sunday, Nick Phinn claimed that he was as low as he has ever felt after a defeat.
"Being the derby adds that bit more to the taste of defeat; it is a horrible one to take. Once we scored you maybe thought that the momentum would be with ourselves. We always did look threatening when we were going forward, it was just that the final ball or final pass let us down.
"It's such a sore one for us to take because I didn't see us losing the game; credit to Raith Rovers they went on to win the game and there's nothing we can do about it now."
Deep into added time, Nick had a chance with the very last move of the match:-
"Wee Joe has put in a ball and I came in at the back post; Kirkie was about a yard in front of me and he has heard me shout. As he has tried to get out of the way he has backed close to me and it was pretty much impossible for him to get out of the way of my header. It was just one of those things that wasn't meant to be.
"There are still a lot of encouraging things to take out of the game but it is a real sore one to lose to your local rivals. When you get the goal back you think that you are going to go on to hopefully win the game but to lose it again is a hard one to take."
A win would have opened up a seven point gap but the defeat leaves the Rovers just one point behind with a game in hand. The Pars 22 year old midfielder acknowledged that it would have been nice to take the three points but stressed that they have to take things game by game:-
"Three points would have been a massive boost for our standing in the table but we are still there or thereabouts. We lost the last game at Starks Park and we have been unfortunate to be on the wrong end of the result again. We still have to play Raith Rovers one more time this season and here's hoping we can maybe get one back over them but there is a long way to go."
