Joe Cardle Post QOS
Saturday, 11th Dec 2010"I normally play wide left but he put me on up front and just said 'work hard and see if anything comes off for you'. Fortunately Davie Graham has done wonders;
Joe Cardle re-inforced his super Joe tag with the winning goal of the match against Queen of the South within a minute of his introduction:-
"It was my first touch" he confirmed "and it has been a month since we last played. I have been struggling with a hamstring injury for the last three weeks. I only trained on Thursday and Friday there and didn't really expect to be on the bench, so I was happy to be there.
"I came on for the last five minutes and got the goal. Happy days with my left foot, I am over the moon."
Joe was sent on with instructions from Jim McIntyre to attack:-
"I normally play wide left but he put me on up front and just said 'work hard and see if anything comes off for you'. Fortunately Davie Graham has done wonders; he came down from the middle, took it right and put in a great ball for me at the back post. I was there on the right spot to tap it in. It is a brilliant three points to be honest."
The trademark Cardle red boots were missing today though:-
"I changed them and it was a new pair of boots I put on today and first touch with them I scored so I will be sticking with them!"
Joe also credited those who had cleared the pitch to make the game possible:-
"I live in Dunfermline and I couldn't understand how they even thought the game was going to be on. When I came here this morning and saw the pitch I thought unbelievable. The fans and some of the youth teams boys have been in this week as well so we have to take our hats off to them but that's us top of the league now. It has been a team effort - that's the kind of club we are, everyone digs in for each other - and it has paid off today.
"Because of the pitch and the conditions it was never going to be a good flowing game but considering that we still played some good stuff. We got the ball down and played some good football. We just had to wait for the chance and when it came fortunately I took it.
"We wanted the game on so much because the other games were off - we had a chance to go top. Now we are up there we just have to stay there and keep on winning games. Three points are vital for us and we have to keep winning now."
Joe came to Dunfermline to try and get the Club back to the Premierleague:-
"This is a massive club and I came here two years ago expecting to go up last season, unfortunately it didn't come off for us. We have a chance this season; the team we have is tremendous - they work hard for each other, train hard for each other so I don't see why we can't go up."
The Blackpool born 23 year old had one disappointment with the day however. The Players Night out there was postponed since they have a re-arranged match to play against Partick Thistle this Tuesday:-
"It was my suggestion and I am just gutted that we are not going. It would have been nice to go on our Christmas do after scoring a late winner like that. It is just the way things go. We have a game on Tuesday now and training on Monday so it will be a quiet weekend for us all."
