Andy Kirk Post Raith Rovers
Monday, 15th Nov 2010"When I tried to connect it bounced up and it went wide rather than over the bar. It is one of those things that happens but obviously I am disappointed with that ..
Andy Kirk was devastated when he spoke to the press after the derby match draw with Raith Rovers:-
"2-0 up at home in a derby and we threw it away. We didn't start the second half particularly well but as the game went on we thought that it felt like it was going to play out 2-0. The chance I missed could have put it 3-0 and the game would have been over then.
"It was just three mistakes - maybe if I'd scored, McGregor didn't slide in and get sent off and if maybe the goalie had held the ball we would have seen the game out. It is just mistakes at the minute that are costing us dearly."
Andy talked through the chance he missed at 2-0 when Pat Clarke cut the ball back to him in front of goal:-
"He played it a bit firmer than I thought he was going to do. There was nobody to bend it round and I have got myself in position where I thought he was going to roll it, coming on to my right foot. He just put that much more pace on it that made me go that wee bit more with my left. When I tried to connect it bounced up and it went wide rather than over the bar. It is one of those things that happens but obviously I am disappointed with that but as a team we are devastated at dropping two points.
"It's not the first time this has happened. At Dundee we were two nil up and threw it away and again we have thrown it away. We need to get that mentality back to see games out when we are winning and getting our consistency back."
Andy was the player withdrawn after two subs had gone on in 76th minute and only one player - David Graham - had come off.
"I saw Ryan Thomson on the side of the pitch and didn't know who he was coming on for. They got a corner and I was back defending at the near post. Wee Davie had hurt his calf at the time and had gone off. Then I saw them calling on Joe, which was obviously a straight swap for Davie. I saw the two subs going off but I never saw my number going up or anyone calling on me to come off. When we cleared the corner I sprinted up the pitch then I saw the referee going to the linesman.
"The gaffer called me and asked if I was coming off but I was looking to see who was coming on for me. It was confusing. The referee is blaming us but at the end of the day the linesman has let two players on and only one player's gone off. I never saw the board, nobody told me I was coming off and I was back defending. It was just a mix up. He booked Davie Graham for coming back on the pitch apparently. I think he should probably have booked me. I think that was what I was looking for. It was a comedy of errors really.
"I was flabbergasted at the time when the gaffer asked if I was coming off. I was looking to see who else was coming on - is it three subs? I have never been involved in anything like that; it was a mix up after we gave over our two slips to the official as you do. He knows who is coming off and who is going on. The linesman has let two players on and one player has limped off just before that. Usually you are told to wait on the sidelines until the player is off and just two yards away and he says 'right away you go'. I don't think it was our fault really."
