Scotland squad member Scott Sutherland is in his fifth year at Dunfermline Athletic yet he is still only 15. The striker who is still at Perth High School has been coached at Dunfermline by the likes of Paul Thomson, Peter Mayne, Johnny Allison and Stevie Paterson and rates Stevie as the one who really spotted his potential:-
"Before Stevie was my coach I spent a lot of time on the bench but he gave me more starts and my confidence grew." he claimed. Scott likes to play the ball on the deck or over the top as one of his biggest assests is his pace.
Scott has already played for Scotland both times away from home against Switzerland and Turkey. The next opportunity to add to his international experience will be at East End Park on Monday 7th April when the Republic of Ireland will be the visitors. Home advantage will be slim however since he has only played there occasionally:-
"Singing the national anthem was amazing, it was the best feeling. I have played at East End Park with the Under 13s and have been on the bench for the Under 20s. So I know how the pitch plays but this will be the first serious game on it.
"I know most of the boys in the squad from previous Scotland gatherings. My first one on 25th February last year and the first game I played was on 10th September last year."
With this next international being at home Scott is expecting a sizeable family and friends group down from Perth to support him and his team mates. Scott would like to work his way up through the Dunfermline youth teams. "I get a one day release from school on a Thursday and looking ahead I think I will finish my schooling before considering a full time contract if I am lucky enough to be offered one."
