1885 CLUB LAUNCH

The 1885 Club, a new venture aimed at bringing the football club and businesses closer together, was launched on Friday 28th February at a special breakfast at East End Park.  And as you will see from our photographs, the launch went even better than expected with a tremendous turnout of around sixty business and retired business people coming along to hear first class speakers and presentations.  Indeed, so much so that the 1885 Club got an immediate surge in membership with a good number of people signing up on the day and others pledging to do so soon.

Listen to Garry Davidson explain the objectives of the 1885 Club
Garry Davidson, Chairperson of the 1885 Club, outlined the main objectives of the Club which include re-engaging with the business community of West Fife, and through that support Dunfermline Athletic on the playing field and support community and charity events linked to DAFC.

The first of the guest speakers was Bill Leckie, chief sports writer with The Sun.Bill gave a very eloquent soliloquy about the current state of Scottish football and his own personal opinions on how we got there.  He was followed by the manager Jim Jefferies who talked about the team but who also gave an interesting insight into the world behind the dressing room door.  Those present got a real feeling of what is happening in the club, with his thoughts on promotions, expenditure and new contracts. Last but not least to give his presentation was Pars United Director Ross McArthur, who talked the eagerly listening gueststhrough the "story so far" and "where to next".

It was altogether a very successful event and one that had those present looking forward to the next event. The new committee have rolled out a fabulous array of future speakers such as former Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Pars-supporting top Scottish businessman Lord Sandy Leitch.  In addition the group are arranging a mouth-watering collection of social and networking events such as "away days" out, pop up bars and hospitality in trackside boxes and the boardroom. They even have plans for an annual big ticket fundraiser!

1885 CLUB LAUNCH

The 1885 Club is looking for more local businesses to join this very worthwhile project and would be happy to discuss the benefits of membership with anyone who is interested. The cost of membership is an initial joining fee of £50, followed by a monthly subscription of £25.Alternatively an annual fee of £290 can be paid.
