Falkingham up for the fight
Friday, 21st Feb 2014"I love the supporters and they have been another massive factor on why I have signed. The sooner they know that the better.
Speaking exclusively to the website, Josh Falkingham today expressed his delight at signing a new two year deal at the club. He was delighted to get it over and done with and revealed that the fans backing was a major factor on his decision to sign:-
"It has been a situation that has been going on and there is nothing I could have done about it. I am glad that there are no excuses now; my performances have not been great recently and people have been saying that it is because this is hanging over him.
"My commitment has never been less it is just my performances haven't been great and I need to pick them up now. I can get on with that and look forward to getting the club back to where I want it to be and where it deserves to be."
Jim Jefferies has said that subconsciously contract negotiations can affect players performances but Josh felt that he had not been playing up to his usual high standards.
"He is more experienced than me, he has been in the business a lot longer than me. I am just looking forward to getting back to my old self. The game at Forfar I felt was a little bit better but I know I can do a lot better myself. Hopefully I can get back level in time for the crucial matches that are going to be coming up."
Josh has been playing with a broken hand sustained in the match against Rangers at the end of the year:-
"It fully healed after about three weeks but it affected me in the Airdrie game at home, the Stranraer game and the Brechin game. I was having to play with a little strap maybe subconsciously that is another factor."
The 23 year old claimed that the ambitions demonstrated by Jim Jefferies January transfer window signings was a massive factor in his own decision to sign for another two years.
"The club are ambitious, I am ambitious, I want to get to the highest level possible and with these players who have come from the level that I want to go to, it is a massive positive. The last couple of results come from the freshness and experience that in a way has been a little bit missing. They are winners and they add to those that we already have at this football club."
Talking about some of the disappointment expressed by supporters who had expected a contract agreement earlier, Josh was adamant that he had never rejected a deal:-
"I love the supporters and they have been another massive factor on why I have signed. The sooner they know that the better. Deep down I have not been liking what has been going on. It is their view but I feel that I have built up a good enough relationship with them to be honest and just say that they have been a factor in making me sign and making me commit. They have been great to me and the majority of them have been positive over the last few weeks. I am just delighted that I can give a little bit back to them as well.
"They maybe thought I was questioning that but I can categorically say I never was. I have never undermined the club, never once, that is not in my nature. If anything I am just delighted for them as well. It is a big plus and we can now look forward. They have been and still are a massive factor - they can be the twelfth man that we need to push on.
"We need to get out of this division. You need to have pressure on you but they deserve to be back in that league. Hopefully we can do that in the play offs."
