Dunfermline Athletic

Hubby's Forfar first

Sunday, 16th Feb 2014

"We knew that would get chances it was just a matter of putting them away.

Stephen Husband celebrates

When Stephen Husband replaced the injured Andy Geggan just two minutes into the second half, he hoped to make a big impact on the game. He certainly did that with his 69th minute strike to put the Pars back on level terms with Forfar Athletic and set them up for a comeback to win. Stephen was happier with the three points than he was with his fourth goal of the season and his first in the first team in 2014:-

"I was glad to get the equaliser and pull us back in the game. A goal for myself but the main objective in coming here was to get the three points."

Forfar manager Dick Campbell had said that he could not see Dunfermline coming back from 2-1 down but his team made mistakes that let the Pars in. Stephen continued:-

"We have comeback in most of our games from going a goal down. The lads know that and we also have a fighting spirit, so they don't get too worried about scoring goals."

Just prior to Hubby's goal Ross Forbes had seen a well struck free kick excellently saved by Forfar keeper Rab Douglas who was making his 500th senior appearance spanning over twenty years in the senior game. Stephen had also has shots blocked but the goal came after Danny Grainger picked him out on the edge of the D. The 23 year old played the ball off Faissal El Bakhtaoui before finding the net with a great finish.

"That's the way we play. We always take chances and all season we have scored a lot of goals as well. We knew that would get chances it was just a matter of putting them away.

"It is not all about my goal, the boys got goals and we ran out comfortable winners. Faissal is doing really well just now. He has had his ups and downs but he took his goal well - if he meant it that is. I think it was a cut back but I will give him it anyway. He is working really hard."

As the Pars return home for two successive league matches after four away from home. The Manager has told the players that these are important in the context of the season:-

"We need to take each one as they come, we just need to make sure that we get the three points and nail that second place and push Rangers right until the end."

With the next two Saturdays pitching Dunfermline up against the clubs currently in fourth and third place in League One the term massive can be used to describe them, Stephen observed:-

"It seems to be that every game in this league is a six pointer. It just seems like the next team is right behind you whether it is five points or three points, there is always a game left. We just have to keep three points ourselves now."

There was a smile across Stephen's face when he was reminded that three points against Forfar had been achieved at Station Park for the first time since April 1989, he added:-

"It is the first time I have left here with a win. It is good. It has always been a hard place for us to come and it wasn't easy today even though we ran out a couple of goals up. They make it difficult for us, they are a hard team to play against and credit has to go to them as well."
