It is with great sadness that the Club has learned of the death on Sunday 16th February of Joe Nelson.  Joe has been involved with the Club as trainer and kit man since the 1960s.  Along with Andy Young he was responsible for bringing in players like Jim Scott, Jim Wallace, Bonar Mercer, Kenny Thomson and Kenny Mackie.

Jim Leishman said:-

"He was a real stalwart at the Club, a great guy who gave me great encouragement as manager. I went to see him on Friday to thank him and say cheerio.  I am really glad that I went to see him, we had great memories."

Other former players like Ian Westwater, Andy Tod, John Watson and fellow kit man Mo Hutton are amongst others who have also recently been to visit Joe.

Bert Paton said:-
"Clubs cannot survive without guys like Joe, they are the livelihood of the club time and time again. Joe was a first class guy, former player and miner so he had all the ingredients."

Dick Campbell added:-
"Words do not exist to say how important Joe was to everybody. He was just a lively, lovely human being."

At a recent tribute night held in the Alhambra with Dick and Bert, Joe attended but had his daughter Barbara Ann read out what he wanted to say to the audience.  She read:-

"Many thanks to the fans who have given me so much support over the years in so many ways. My wife and I were invited to many supporters nights which we thoroughly enjoyed and I have also had the honour of receiving awards from you which have meant so very much. You have made my time at the Pars very very memorable.

"I have been very lucky and had the real privilege for working for every Pars manager from Mr Stein to the current gaffer, Jim Jefferies. I would like to say a
heart felt thanks to all the gaffers that I have worked with.

"Also a huge thanks to the players, not just the first team but reserves and the youth boys that I have worked with and also the back room staff. They all made the
Pars the club that it is. The recognition from you means so much not just to me but also to my family."

The Club and everybody associated with it extend their condolences to his wife Barbara, daughter Barbara Ann and son John and family.  May God bless his memory and keep him in peace.

There will be a minutes silence prior to the match against Ayr United on Saturday 22nd February 2014 in Joe's memory

Joe's funeral will be held on Monday 24th February 2.45pm at Dunfermline Crematorium.
