Monumental decision easy for Wallace
Thursday, 30th Jan 2014"I actually enjoy being here so it was a no brainer for me when the gaffer offered me it ...
In an exclusive interview Ryan Wallace told the website that the offer to extend his contract at Dunfermline until the end of the season after next was a 'no brainer':-
"I have been at the club for a year and a half now and the club is going in the right direction. Obviously there was a wee blip but that is not the new owners' fault, it is not the manager's fault and we have just got on with it.
"I enjoy being around the club; what the club has got to offer me and what I can offer the club. Since I actually enjoy being here, it was a no brainer for me when the gaffer offered me it. I was desperate to get it signed and get it to the back of my mind.
"When I spoke to my girlfriend about my contract she said that there are not many people these days that can say their job is safe for two years.
"I am sure that the club couldn't have done it without the Centenary Club either. They have gone out of their way, and people have put their hand in their pocket in tough times and given the club money to secure these boys. Not just myself but other boys have been tied down into longer contracts to help the club progress."
The players are not bothered about what goes on behind the scenes but are happy that there are communications when they are necessary from Jim Jefferies or relayed through his captain Josh Falkingham. Ryan continued:-
"We are footballer players who are here to do our job. It is nice to know that there is a bit of security here now and the new owners are not living outwith their means. It is good to know that; you are in the clear now and there is money coming into the club and going out at the right times."
Ryan has scored 24 goals for Dunfermline in 66 appearances but goes into every game looking to score goals and create assists for his teammates.
"I try and do my job every week, work hard, score goals and create chances for my teammates. If we come off with three points then that is absolutely amazing."
All the more important then to maintain the backbone of the team that will push all the way for second place in League One. The team spirit and team bonding at Dunfermline is something special. The 23 year old striker explained:-
"Neil McCann says that normally you would get one or two who do not get on, but everybody gets on at the club; they talk to each other and get on well. There is none that have a problem with each other. The spirit in the team is absolutely fantastic and you can see that on the pitch. When we go one goal behind or two goals behind and come back and win games. It is fantastic to have and that comes from the training and what the backroom install into the team."
The first opponents for Ryan after extending his contract is at Bayview against the club he left to join Dunfermline at the end of the 2011-12 season. He notes that the East Fife that he will face on Saturday is not the East Fife he left.
"They are definitely not the same club; I think there is a bit of money floating about up there now. I just hope that they are doing it right and not doing it Gretna style by trying to progress too quickly.
"They have changed the way they play but if we play anywhere near what we can play nobody on their day will get near us. For the first 65 minutes at Brechin we were on top, totally dominant until naivety crept in. We made mistakes that cost us.
"Overall performance was good but we are gifting teams silly silly goals. Nobody has ever really cut us open. We had a heart to heart with everybody and watched the video of the Brechin game and all the goals that we lost. It was just individual errors, not picking up at the right time and not doing your job. We just need to go and do our job and get three points up at East Fife."
The match that follows is at Ibrox in the next round of the Scottish Cup and Ryan could not resist a word or two about that:-
"Everybody looks at the cup as a bonus game. We have drawn Rangers and it has brought a lot of finances into the club and you are probably going to make over 200 grand out of the game. It is an absolutely fantastic achievement to get to this stage of the cup but we want to progress. We want to be the first people to beat Rangers this year and take a scalp. It would be brilliant to go there and get a win but we have got East Fife first and we want three points."
