Teenage Dream
Friday, 17th Jan 2014Ryan Williamson and Lewis Martin are signed up
Ryan Williamson and Lewis Martin spoke exclusively to the website on the day after they signed contracts to keep them at Dunfermline Athletic until the end of the season after next. Ryan kicked off:-
"It was a surprise at first because I only signed six months go. I did not expect to be offered a new contract so soon. Obviously when the gaffer told me and Lewis that we would be signing- it was supposed to be last Thursday - we were pleased."
Central defender Lewis Martin chipped in:-
"I was delighted to get a contract here because it is a brilliant club. We are both enjoying it and training with first team players every day. It is good to come in and get on with it.
"You are training with more experienced players. The training is always high tempo and enjoyable. I would like to think that it is improving us as players."
The two seventeen year olds have had their feet planted on the ground putting out the goals for training and the normal jobs that are expected of youth team players.
"They still make us do all the hard work. It has to be done. We put the goals up in the freezing cold in the morning, doing the kitchen and the dishes. That is the worst.
"It is so hard and there is so much to do. There are forks and knives to clean and then to wash the dishes is a nightmare; we are still doing it.
"At the moment we just want to make as many appearances as we can. Keep performing as well as we can and we know that we will be taken out, but when we do we will still keep working hard to try and get back in (to the team).
"We just have to do our best and try and make as many appearances as we can."
Both Dads have played football; Andy Williamson for Dunfermline Athletic and David Martin for Alloa, St Johnstone and Dumbarton.
"They said that we need to get to the next level, keep working and make sure that we do not stop. We have a long way to go. We need to keep working hard and trying to improve our game basically.
John Potter, the Manager and Neil McCann are there to bring these young players on:-
"The training with older players brings us on. That will improve us all the time. Potts helped me a lot last year and has again this year with Neil McCann. He is always giving us advice on how to improve our game."
The two teenagers could not conceal their pleasure at signing contracts:-
"We are delighted and hope to extend our careers."
