Shaun strikes again
Sunday, 12th Jan 2014"We will take anybody in the play offs, we won't fear anybody but whoever we get then it is over two matches and we will be confident of beating anyone."
Shaun Byrne's equaliser against Stranraer was his fourth goal in senior football but he described it as a bit of a lucky one.
"It went in the net at the end of the day so obviously we are delighted and to get the three points was even better. I tried to hit into the ground but it hit the defenders boot but as soon as it did that I knew that it was going into the net. It was a great header down from Andy Geggan to find me and then I was delighted to score.
"I thought we started the game pretty well, it was a good move to get the penalty but after we missed that I think we had a lull. Then they got their goal and Scully had to make a good save at 1-0. That was an important save and we showed great character again to come back. I do not know how many times we have gone a goal down and still coming back to win."
Due to Ryan Thomson's 34th minute goal Dunfermline went in back all square at the break to hear the Manager warn Shaun and his team mates that they were making their own mistakes:-
"He said that we needed to cut that out in the second half but we lost a quick goal from a free header. Again we came back. We all have a never say die attitude and will go right until the very end. We are used to going a goal behind - it is not a good thing - but it just shows that once we do go behind we can get back into it and win the game."
The third win over Stranraer in as many games opens the gap between the Pars in second and the Galloway club to eight points even though they have a home game in hand against Forfar. The 20 year old Fifer who made his 46th appearance for the Pars on Saturday knows how much that matters:-
"It is a massive three points for us just like the three we took from last Thursday's at Stenhousemuir was as well. The Manager stressed how important these two games were and we have come out of them with six points. Stranraer have been on a really good run, we were the last team to beat them and it is a great three points for us."
Stranraer were pushing hard towards the end in search of an equaliser and turned up the pressure after the 85th minute red card shown to Faissal El Bakhtaoui:-
"It was quite nerve racking at the end but I thought Kerr Young and Lewis Martin were brilliant and stuck really well to them. Scully made a few good saves. We will take anybody in the play offs, we won't fear anybody but whoever we get then it is over two matches and we will be confident of beating anyone." As things stand that would mean the first play off games would be against Stranraer.
