Chairman interview
Friday, 23rd Dec 2011"We have to consolidate this year and build on that. It's very important to stay up financially but we've got two budgets getting done next month: one where we stay up and one where we go down
Chairman John Yorkston says that there could be cash available to strengthen the squad in January if manager Jim McIntyre needs it. Speaking to the media centre, John says,
"It depends on what he needs. If it's £100,000 to buy a player then no, there is not that sort of budget, but the board and the manager will sit down in the coming weeks and find out what is needed, who is out there and what he costs. If Jim comes to us and says "I need to strengthen X position on the field and Y player is available for Z pounds", then we'll look at the request and see what we can do."
The club's precarious position at the foot of the table makes planning for 2012 that little bit more difficult, because although we all hope we stay up, there is a chance we may go down. John says, "
We want to be a top team. We have to consolidate this year and build on that. It's very important to stay up financially but we've got two budgets getting done next month: one where we stay up and one where we go down. We'll make sure both budgets keep this club going, no matter what division we're in. We'll get a parachute payment if we do go down which would soften the blow and there are players whose contracts are coming up at the end of the season. But I firmly believe we'll not need the second budget and the SPL budget we prepare will be the one we use going forward".
