PFA Scotland Team of the Year
Thursday, 1st May 2014Three Pars players make league team of the year
Dunfermline's success in achieving second place in League One in their first season back from administration has been rewarded with three Pars players being names in the League One Team of the Year.
Central defender Callum Morris gets into the team for the second successive year, although last year it was for the First Division. Captain Andy Geggan deservedly gets in for his consistency, hard work, and - on this occasion - his nine goal tally for the season.
Perhaps best of all, an award for 18 year old full back Ryan Williamson, a player whose driving runs have lit up so many games. Ryan's accolade is also recognition of the faith that manager Jim Jefferies has put in youth.
The team is not surprisingly dominated by Rangers who have five names and Dunfermline with three, while Stranraer, Ayr and Forfar have one each. Goalkeeper Cammy Bell, Captain Lee McCulloch and Jon Daly, Nicky Law and Lee Wallace were the Rangers nominees; Michael Moffat, the Ayr United goalscoring machine, Gavin Swankie, the Forfar player who has made life so difficult for the Pars at times, and Stranraer midfielder Andy Stirling are the other nominees.
The full team is:
Goalkeeper: Cameron Bell (Rangers),
Defenders: Ryan Williamson (Dunfermline Athletic), Callum Morris (Dunfermline Athletic), Lee McCulloch (Rangers), Lee Wallace (Rangers)
Midfielders: Andy Stirling (Stranraer), Andy Geggan (Dunfermline Athletic), Nicky Law (Rangers)
Forwards: Michael Moffat (Ayr United), Jon Daly (Rangers), Gavin Swankie (Forfar)
