Thommo heading on
Monday, 21st Apr 2014"It just shows you that whatever has happened behind the scenes, we are doing something right.
Ryan Thomson was pleased to score his fifth goal of the season in Dunfermline's draw at Ayr on Saturday and the performance he felt was good given there were six changes in the starting eleven:-
"We shook the team up quite a bit, so it was nice to see the likes of Lewis Spence and Ryan Goodfellow getting a bit more game time. I thought they played well, especially at the start of the second half. We were on top and we should have kicked on from there. When they got the goal back they put us under a bit more pressure but overall we played well.
"I need game time because I was out for a while. When I got back in the team I got injured again so it is important for me to get game time especially going into the play offs. A goal helps my confidence."
It was Ryan's ankle that caused him to be sidelined and mean that his start against Ayr was just his fourth since Christmas. A return in the home game against Brechin City was cut short when he went over on it again. That caused him to miss another game but now he is keen to return and help out in the goal scoring department.
"I just want to play every game because I feel I still need a bit of sharpness. If I keep on training hard, work hard in games then I can be an option for us in the play offs. I believe in myself and believe that I can do it."
Like most of his team mates on Saturday, Ryan came through the youth system at Dunfermline. (Jim Jefferies has included Faissal El Bakhtaoui and Alex Whittle in that since they joined as youngsters.) Only Ross Forbes and Danny Grainger had not come through from the U20s. At the age of only 23 Ryan is able to recall how hard it used to be to progress from the under 19s and how many players failed to get professional contracts at Dunfermline in the past:-
"It just shows you that whatever has happened behind the scenes, we are doing something right. It has not been for a while at Dunfermline since a lot of youths have come through the system. It is a good sign for the club.
"For every negative there is a positive. Going through administration gave a lot of the younger boys a chance. The likes of Ryan Williamson has just come in and it has been superb for boys like that. It has given them a good chance and most of them have taken it."
Reflecting on his most recent goal just five minutes into the second half in Saturday's game Ryan described it:-
"I didn't know if it was in already or not. Wee Faissal made the keeper work but it was right in front of me and I will take ones like that any day!"
